Web TV is set to become the biggest delivery method
for broadcast TV around the globe.
As broadband gets faster and faster web TV will only
get bigger. Web TV is only just getting going with the
big boys such as the BBC and Channel 4. They are using
a file sharing model for their web TV shows which keeps
costs down.
The PVR market is set to become the normal way to watch
TV. Soon all TV’s will have PVR’s built
in all capable of receiving web TV.
Will
TiVO Be A File Sharing Model For Web TV
The TiVO can already be programmed to receive weekly
shows off the web, such as the web TV show DLTV.com
I can see the next step for TiVO will be a file sharing
model for web tv.
In a few years when we all have fibre 100mb lines and
we all have PVR’s we won’t even realise
we are watching a web TV shows because our PVR will
just use the web as another delivery method.
Web
TV More Cost Affective Than Satellite
Web TV delivery is much more cost effective than satellite
transmission and offers more control. Broadcasters will
all want web TV one day. Right now if you say web TV
to a broadcaster they think of YouTube not web TV at
full screen at DVD quality.
Web TV is being held up by the isps right now. A lot
more investment is needed in the infrastructure to make
web TV a mass market product. So until the ISPs or the
broadcasters invest heavily in infrastructure web TV
will stay on the computer screen for the time being.
